The Hotel Metropole is a landmark for Brussels in many ways. It is the only Brussels hotel that has survived from the 19th century.
It started in 1890, when the Wielemans brothers, brewers from Vorst, created a Café Metropole here with the intention of selling their beers. After unprecedented success, a hotel was built next to the café with unparalleled luxury. With its French and Italian Renaissance, Empire, and Art Deco styles, the hotel is also a landmark in Brussels architecture. You can still admire expensive materials like polished teak wood, Numidian marble, gilded bronze, and wrought iron. Numerous celebrities have stayed here, such as Einstein and Marie Curie.
