The castle of Deurle was built in 1766 on the orders of Jan Frans Albrecht de Causmaecker, attorney general at the Council of Flanders. The rectangular building with a neoclassical facade and a corner tower is not visible from the street. The Red Beech Avenue is a remnant of the 18th-century landscaping around the castle. Many Latem impressionists captured the avenue with its cathedral allure and intriguing light on canvas.
