Visé is known as a place of pilgrimage. The St. Martin and Hadelinus Church has stood here since the 8th century. The relics of Saint Hadelinus lie in a beautiful reliquary in this church. Saint Hadelinus was born around 617 in Aquitaine. He founded a kooster in Celles. During the Middle Ages, many miraculous stories were told about healings and miracles performed by Saint Hadelinus: the resurrection of a woman named Guiza, the spring of a fountain in Franchimont near Philippeville, the healing of the deathly ill wife of the lord of Béon, the healing of a deaf-mute woman, ... are just a few of the stories.
On 11 October 1338, the relics of Hadelinus were transferred to the church of Visé on the instructions of the Prince-Bishop of Liège.
A well-known pilgrimage road leads from Amsterdam to Visé. The reliquary of Hadelinus is carried around during the annual Hadelinus procession (third Sunday in September). His remembrance is celebrated on 3 February.
