A colored engraving from 1592, displayed in the castle's collection, shows the impressive Reuland castle with all its outbuildings, including the chapel and the residential wing. With some imagination, one can envision the imposing tower structures with a pointed slate roof and the portal during a visit. In 1794, French troops destroyed the proud castle, whose foundation stone was laid in the 12th century. However, the fortress, covering an area of 55 by 65 meters, is still impressive even as a ruin. The heavy fortress walls, the bases of the towers, and almost the entire northwestern tower have survived. The 14-meter high keep has also withstood the test of time. From above, one has a grand view. The lineage of Reuland, which gave the castle its name, became extinct in the early 14th century. As lords of the castle, the counts of Blankenheim were followed by the dukes of Luxembourg, and finally, the lords von Pallandt, who remodeled the castle into a comfortable residence. The stone-carved coat of arms of the last lord von Pallandt, with the year 1604, has been preserved on the outer wall of the southwestern hall. Since 1920, Reuland castle has been state property. The castle's collection includes finds that have emerged from excavations. The spring of the castle was also discovered and uncovered during excavations.
