Midzeelhoeve

The Midzeelhoeven are two old farmsteads in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, more specifically in the hamlet of Elzestraat. They are located opposite each other in the street Midzelen. They are now part of the entire museum site of 't Grom, the vegetable museum.
The name Midzele is said to come from "Mid" and "Zele". Mid refers to the center of a place. Zele would be a house with a roof or a place where people gathered. In a broader sense, the term would mean a central place in a settlement. This name, together with a more or less triangular square between the farms, could indicate an origin from Frankish times, although there are no further sources for this. The name Midzele certainly dates back to the Middle Ages and first appears in a source in 1310. Hendrik Berthout then donates a piece of land of four acres, located in Midzele, to Walter Bau.
