demonstration: Gilding with gold leaf
Gilding of objects (or parts of an object) with gold leaf was (and is) applied for aesthetic reasons and as a sign of wealth, replacing gold plating. It was in any case cheaper than making an object in solid gold. There are various gilding techniques. On Heritage Day, we will demonstrate the poliment and mixion gilding.
demonstration: Marble and wood imitation
Marble and wood imitation are specialized painting techniques used to mimic the real material. The price difference between precious woods and marble and the cost of specialized craftsmen for its imitation is one reason for its existence. Labor costs were negligible in the past. On Heritage Day, we will demonstrate how to convincingly imitate wood and marble.
