Did you know that the Lice Mill is the last mill in the Brussels Region that still works? The Lice Mill milled until 1928. In 1942 it was protected as a monument. However, difficulties of all kinds caused the irrevocable decay of the mill, which, after the loss of its blades, also gradually began to collapse. The mill was declassified in 1954 and demolished in 1955. From 1996, the non-profit organisation Luizenmolen Anderlecht had a completely new standerdmolen built about thirty meters from the site of the original mill. The festive inauguration of the new Lice Mill took place on 29 May 1999. Because of the great symbolic value that the Lice Mill has for Anderlecht, the Brussels government took the exceptional measure in 2007 to protect the reconstruction of the mill as a monument.
