Take a day to do something different and enjoy the fair in Nivelles. The terrace of Taverne La Brasserie is largely occupied, and the tasty pints quickly make their way over the small tables.
With a smooth band in the background and a view of the impressive Romanesque church Collegiate St. Gertrude, which is more than a hundred meters long, it is nice to stay on the Grand-Place. The church dates back to the 11th century and has two opposing choirs, two transepts, and two pulpits.
During archaeological excavations, three graves were found that can be accessed via a Romanesque crypt. The crypt, one of the largest in Belgium, measuring 22 by 10 meters, is divided into six bays. High in the bell tower hangs a carillon with 49 bells that together weigh almost 15 tons. On the outside of the church hangs Jean de Nivelles in a robe of gilded brass and armed with a hammer.
