The castle is the most prominent attraction here in the city. The first castle was built in the 11th century and was fortified in the 13th century when Durbuy came to lie in the north of the County of Luxembourg. In the 18th century, the castle came into the hands of the noble family d’Ursel. They had it remodeled in 1731. The castle gained its current appearance after a restoration in 1880. The estate is still owned by the d’Ursel family. Despite all those changes, and the changes in the city, the location of the castle has always remained the same. A rock in the middle of the valley with a large castle on it, together with the atmosphere that Durbuy has, can still delight many people.
