In 1896, Bartholomé Hanssens, the mayor of Dworp, bought an old farm/dairy and converted it into a brewery. From 1929, Theo Hanssens took over the business and dismantled the remnants of the brewery. In turn, Theo was succeeded by his son Jean, who won the trophy from the Objectie Beer Tasters in 1993. Since 1998, the company has been in the hands of Jean's daughter Sidy, and wort is once again being purchased and fermented. The "Oud Beitje" is a strawberry lambic that is mainly promoted as an aperitif and has been offered by Hanssens Artisanaal since 1999. In addition to the artisanal old geuze and old kriek, "geuze confiture" and "kriek confiture" are also available. This confiture, made from entirely natural products, is based on old geuze and old kriek. The range also includes a geuze coulis and a kriek coulis.
