St. Anne's Chapel was a popular place for pilgrims. The chapel is now a protected monument. The St. Anne's Chapel is part of the perimeter consisting of nine road chapels with scenes from the life of St. Anne. In documents of the 12th century of St. Peter's Abbey, a reference was made to a chapel close to the church of Bottelare in honor of Saint Anne. Here the miraculous image of this saint was venerated. A miraculous healing in the 16th century greatly increased the popularity of Saint Anne here. The steady increase in worshippers led Jacobus Boonen, archbishop of Mechelen, to found the arch-brotherhood of Jesus, Mary and Anna in the church of Bottlare in 1626.
