With the arrival of the expressway N49, the Aalstgoed was cut in half. The intersection of the Aalstgoed with the expressway was blocked with concrete blocks, allowing only cyclists to cross here. Soon these heavy blocks were pushed aside, and the intersection of the Aalstgoed became an extremely dangerous crossing. In the 1990s, work finally began on the bicycle bridge as a definitive crossing point. This bridge is adorned with swaying figures, the 'peten'.
