“Beemd” means in Brabant and further east, what a “meers” (wet meadow) is in Flanders, but in this region the name “beemd” is very rare. The “ter beemt-hoeve” is located at the site that was already referred to as “de Beempt” in 1550, close to the “list”, where former residents opted for this name. In local history, there is also a “lordship of ter beempt”, which depended on the feudal court of the barony Eine and from 1739 on the Hoobroucks.
This classified and historical square farm, of the Brabant type, was in the recent past (1969) a farm under the Dhaenens family, with a gin distillery (1866 according to the industrial census). The byproduct called “drafter” was an ideal animal feed. You can still notice this at the dominant chimney. The distillery was dismantled during WWI by the occupier for the copper. The stables and the distillation area served, before the restoration, as a home for the St. Bavo scout group. Now the distinctive spaces are regularly used as an art gallery. On Monument Day 2006, an exhibition from grain to bread was held, baked here. In 2007 there was the exhibition from wands to rattan and in October 2007 the wall hangers day. This farm and its immediate surroundings are protected as a monument and as a village view. This building lies in the construction zone and therefore does not qualify (for example, as a wijmen museum) for the land management project. The new residents have plans to convert this farm into a tavern with a children's farm. It could be a nice attraction and resting place for walkers and rural tourism.
