Hamont-Achel is one of the most important Teuten municipalities in North Limburg. It is the only municipality in Limburg where Teuten (itinerant traders) and Trappists met. A lot of heritage still reminds of the Teuten. Achel also houses the only Trappist monastery in the province. The open agricultural landscape, the vast nature reserves, the fragrant coniferous forests, the surprising historical testimonies in the centers and the greenery around the Warmbeek valley, make Hamont-Achel the place par excellence for hikers and cyclists.
