The coat of arms of Dudzele is derived from that of the first Lords of Dudzele, at the beginning of the 13th century. These families held land as a fief from the Saint Peter's Abbey in Ghent. The key in the corner is the symbol of Saint Peter: he holds the key to the gates of heaven. In heraldry, it is described as “a shield with an accolade base, the background in silver, with two chevrons in gules, charged in the dexter canton of the chief, with the key of Saint Peter in sable, turned to the right.”
