The Ryckelenberghoeve: Erps island 1

On the corner of Kwerpsebaan and Oude Baan lies the Rijckenberghoeve. This building bears the house number 310 on Kwerpsebaan. In the 16th century, this farmstead belonged to the noble family 't Serclaes, and in the 17th century, it came into the hands of the noble family de Fourneau. In 1709, Jan Vanderhulst purchased this important farmstead. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the tenant families Wauters and Poels succeeded one another in this enterprise. Guillaume Wauters (+1851) established an oil mill here in the first half of the 19th century. The millstones from the fat mill can still be found embedded in the stable. The Rijckenberghoeve is a long house with two stories and a gabled roof from the 17th century. The farm was constructed from brick and sandstone. Daily life took place on the inner courtyard, which can be accessed through a small entrance door on Kwerpsebaan. The high half-cross windows on the upper floor are still clearly visible. Notable is also the sundial on the wall of the upper floor along the inner courtyard. Along Oude Baan, we find a right-angled extension with a large barn door. There is a beautiful wall chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of lost items.
