Our Lady Church of Gaasbeek

In the Our Lady of Gaasbeek Church, you will encounter many historical elements as this church was of course linked to the castle of Gaasbeek. You will repeatedly come across the name Abcoude here. Sarah De Grauwe writes the following about that famous family in her book Gaasbeek Tales:

"The Abcoudes were of a very noble lineage that held important offices in Holland and Brabant. They owned several lordships, including Gaasbeek, but also Putten, Strijen, Wijk bij Duurstede, Coelhorst, and of course Abcoude itself. The lord of Gaasbeek, son of Sweder, was also stadholder of Holland, hereditary marshal of Hainaut, and councilor of the court of Holland, Zeeland, and West Friesland. With that, he was one of the richest men in the Netherlands."
