Masterpiece that marks the beginning of Horta's career. Victor Horta is one of the great Art Nouveau architects in Europe. He was born in Ghent in 1861, the son of the shoemaker Petrus Horta and Henrica Coppieters. He attended secondary education at the Royal Athenaeum in the Ottogracht. In the early years of his career, he worked as a decorator in Montmartre in Paris. One of the masterpieces of his talent as an architect and Art Nouveau decorator is located on Avenue Louise: the Solvay Hotel (1894). Later he transitioned to Art Deco. You can find a beautiful example just near Rue Baron Horta in Brussels: the Palace of Fine Arts or Bozar. This "almost hidden temple" is brilliant in all its complexity. Another example was "the House of the People" in Brussels. It was completely demolished in 1965 and replaced by the rabbit cage "the Blaton Tower".
