The Villa Empain was designed by the Swiss architect Polak, at the request of the businessman and patron Louis Empain (1908 - 1976). It is a masterpiece of Art Deco.
The young Baron Empain did not live long in his house. In 1937, he gave it to the Belgian State, intending to turn it into a museum for Decorative Arts. The Villa Empain was confiscated by the Gestapo in 1943 and received numerous destinations and occupants after the war, such as the Russian embassy and Radio-Télévision-Luxembourg. In 1990, the villa was decommissioned and neglected. It was only from 2007 that the house became a listed monument and a center for cultural and artistic dialogue between Western and Eastern cultures. Several exhibitions are organized there.
The Villa Empain is open every day from 10 to 18:30, except Mondays. www.villaempain.com.
