Arriving in Zingem you see a beautiful spot of unspoilt nature on your left. The Weiput is a nature reserve of approximately 7 ha. It consists mainly of a pond, bordered by a fringe of reed turning into a wet thicket of willows. The pond used to be a clay and sand extraction pit which was partly filled up with silt from the Scheldt. Nature has taken over ever since.
Water plants grow in the open puddle turning the Weiput into a paradise for water birds. The dense fringe of reed forms an ideal biotope for birds like the reed warbler, the reed bunting and the sedge warbler.
