No. 15, 17. Chaplaincy of St. John's Church. Eclectic unit assembly from 1912 replacing a low XVIII (?)-chaplaincy demolished in 1911. Respectively a single house of three bays and a double house of four bays, and two constructions under a gabled roof (n // street, mechanical tiles). Anchored list facade of yellow brick. Dominant style elements derived from the regional Renaissance style cf. the two risalit-forming gable ends, the recessed round-arched frames of the rectangular wall openings with decorative use of red bricks in the arch field, and the delineating brick frieze. Freestanding left side gable of dark red brick. Calvary with stone reproductions of the original XVI d (?)-figures relocated in 1832 to the exterior of St. John's Church, moved to the side gable of the chaplaincy in 1864, and now preserved again within the church building. Describing large pointed arched niche under gable with shoulder pieces and cross crowning, n.o.v. architect F. Van Welden (Poperinge) of 1912 as a simplified version of the neo-Gothic predecessor n.o.v. L. Maertens of 1864. COSSEY S., The way of the cross of a calvary hill in Poperinge (Aan de Schreve, XVI,4,1986, P 3-11).
