James Ensor House

* Vlaanderenstraat no. 27. Also known as "ENSORHUIS". Neoclassical retail building from the last quarter of the 19th century; from 1917 to 1949 the residence of James Ensor, now set up as "Ensorhuis" (museum). Protected as a monument by Royal Decree of 18/01/1974. Broad house of three bays and three stories with a mezzanine under a gabled roof. Wooden shopfront with crowning and dentil cornice and barred shop door; plastered and white-painted facade cladding under a projecting cornice on corbels. Rectangular window, arched on the intermediate floor with cast-iron railings; second floor with door windows on a continuous balcony with elaborated modillions; beautiful cast-iron railing. Facade plaque with inscription "LES AMIS DU PEINTRE BARON JAMES ENSOR À L'OCCASION DE 75E ANNIVERSAIRE". DEPARTMENT ROHM WEST FLANDERS, Cell Monuments and Landscapes, Archive nos.
