The church of Waarmaarde is sometimes referred to as the 'cathedrallet on the Scheldt'. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Birth and Saint Eligius and dates back to the end of the 12th century. It is one of the most remarkable churches in the region, partly because it consists of two naves.
