Here in Brûly-de-Pesche, in the middle of a large forest, the German ‘Organisation Todt’ built a series of bunkers to shelter Hitler during his ‘France Campaign’ at the end of mai 1940.
The 119 ignorant villagers from this peacefull place, have been chased from their houses the morning mai 28th, 1940. They had only 3 hours time to take their belongings and disappear. Only much later, they learned that they had to make place for one of the most powerfull and terrifying men in history.
200 men worked day and night to build two bunkers and two wooden pavillions. The church was turned into a film theater to show Hilter the progress of his troops. The school became the ‘war room’ with maps of Europe all over the walls.
The bunkers were air raid shelters for Hilter himself and his staff, led by Goëring. But they never have been used.
Hitler only stayed 22 days in Brûly-de-Pesche and called this place ‘Wolfsslucht’ or Ravine of the Wolves…
He left the village and the Ravine of the Wolves after the capitulation of France June 28, 1940.
