The Belvue! Museum was determined to keep away from static exhibitions. It follows the flow of the country’s history.
This dynamic approach is highlighted by the animated map of Europe, displayed on a big screen on the first floor. The map follows the evolution of the land and of European borders, from 1000 to 1830, the year Belgium was founded.
It allows the visitor to easily follow the kingdoms’ history, the geometry of the various alliances and the fluctuations of the borders throughout the years.
In the past, this used to house the Museum of the Belgian Dynasty, which today is the Museum of Belgian History: the kings are not shown through their personal and family history any more, but as statesmen.
In this light, the Museum displays several royal letters, witnesses to the active role our Belgian sovereigns played at various key times of the country’s history.
