*Molèye*
The oldest houses in Olne date from the end of the 16th century. They are built in a style that will last until the middle of the 18th century without major changes.
For the shell, mainly limestone blocks from the nearby limestone quarries were used, which were laid in a uniform manner. In some cases, you can also find brownish sandstone from the Gelivaux quarry.
The structure consists of stone: doors and glass windows, bands that connect the sills and window lintels or accentuate the floors, corner anchors.
Notably, the limestone blocks are bonded with 'molèye', a mixture of lime and iron filings from the cannon forges in the Vaux-sous-Olne valley.
From the middle of the 17th century, the wealthier homes feature a façade with mixed masonry: brick (which at that time was a true luxury product) and hard stone, on a layer of limestone blocks.
