High Middle Ages
Like for example Dinant and Huy, the Namur confluence is part of the Merovingian “Comptoirs Mosans” (literally translated: ‘Meuse shops’).
The transition between antiquity and the Middle Ages was remarkably continued here.
In the artisan district of Grognon, jewelry was made from bronze, bone, and stag wood, while the first port facilities and berths were built along the banks of the Meuse.
Under the Hospice Saint-Gilles, wooden remnants of workshops were found that, although not truly monumental, have taught us a great deal about the era from the sixth to the eighth century.
