The church building is the third church in Arlon dedicated to Saint Martin. The first church, from the 4th century, was located outside the city walls: it was destroyed in the 16th century. The second church was built in the city center in 1570: it was demolished in 1935. The current Saint Martin's Church was constructed at the behest of Leopold II between 1907 and 1914 in neo-Gothic style and was consecrated in 1937. The building was designed by Edouard Van Gheluwe and somewhat modified by Modeste de Noyette. The interior features the stained glass windows, particularly the large rose window. The bell tower, at 97 meters, is the tallest in Wallonia and ranks among the top ten tallest church towers in Belgium.
