Schepdaal is already mentioned in the 13th century. The oldest mention is Scepdale (1260). The place was a hamlet of Zierbeek before 1827, named after the watercourse of the same name that irrigated the village. In 1172, the lords of Sirebeke owned the lordship of Schepdaal which was owned by the lords of Gaasbeek from 1497 to 1577. In 1457, Zierbeek had its own seal.
