Laar is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and a part of the municipality of Landen. Laar was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1971. The oldest mention of the place dates back to 1065 and refers to Lare. The name traces back to the Germanic hlari and refers to a clearing in the forest suitable for habitation.
