Meetkerke is a sub-municipality of Zuienkerke, but does not leave itself untouched. Thanks to a miraculous statue of Our Lady, the Church of Our Lady even took on a real pilgrimage allure. Legend has it that fishermen from Blankenberge who had discovered the statue in their nets and brought it to a church full of good intentions, found it again on the beach the next morning. After three churches and as many attempts, the pious fishermen decided to tie the statue to the back of a donkey. The donkey walked straight to the church of Meetkerke.
