Meetkerke is a village in the municipality of Zuienkerke, in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Located in De Polders, about four kilometers from the city of Bruges. The population is about 400. Meetkerke was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977.De place is first mentioned in the 11th century as Matkerke or Madkerka. From the middle of the 13th century, the current form Meetkerke appears. The name is a combination of "church" and the Middle Dutch word made or mead, which means "meadow" or "mowing land".
