Zerkegem is located at the transition between the De Polders in the north and the Zandstreek in the south. Of the districts of Jabbeke, the name of Zerkegem is the oldest found in the documents. The name 'Sirigoheim' already appears in 765. A Celtic burial site was also discovered on the territory.
