Oostwinkel is a village in the municipality of Lievegem, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Oostwinkel is located in the Meetjesland. It covers an area of 8.36 km² and had a population of 678 on 1 September 2006. The Schipdonk Canal runs through the east of Oostwinkel.Old mentions of the village date back to 1216 as Wostwinle and 1220 as Wostwinkala. The name is said to have its origin in the Germanic words "wostu" and "winkila". In the middle of the 13th century, Oostwinkel became an independent parish, when it was split off from Zomergem.
