Viersel is a district of Zandhoven in the Land of Rijen, in the Antwerp Kempen, province of Antwerp, Belgium. Viersel was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977. The origin of Viersel dates back to a Frankish settlement. Viersel may have been the villa Sprusdare on the river Huita or Hnita, the paternal inheritance of Rauchingus, which was donated by this authority in Antwerp along with other gifts to Saint Willibrord in 726. Viersel is mentioned in a charter of the chapter of Hilvarenbeek, located in North Brabant. In this charter from 1157, the chapter grants two free farms in Viersel in perpetuity to the Abbey of Tongerloo.
