The site is backed by the wooded mass of the Fagne to the south of the village of Vodelée and the old red marble quarry of Petit Mont. Despite its small area, the reserve has a great botanical wealth. Forest clearings followed by mowing and grazing are the origin of this semi-natural meadow. One can find the characteristic plant associations of the old hay meadows of Fagne. Among the most typical plants, one can mention: molinia, meadow succisa, sea holly, and several species of sedge... A heathland is maintained on the drier soils with heather and dog violets. Other rarer and protected species bloom on the site. Several bird species such as warblers, nightingales, and yellow finches nest in the thorny thickets that are recolonizing the open areas. Several species of reptiles breed in and around the reserve. Regular clearing of the thorny bushes recolonizing open areas is undertaken. (Text: J.-L. Gathoye).
Public access: Access to the natural reserve will be limited to guided tours, management works, or any other activity organized on the site and approved by the management commission. Motor vehicles and mountain bikes will not be allowed in the reserve, except for agricultural machinery and others intended for site management (mowing, clearing, ...). Scientific studies will be encouraged and conducted after agreement from the management commission. For reasons of public safety, species protection, or management work, the management commission may temporarily prohibit certain accesses.
