Eight Beatitudes Tree

The Achtzalighedenboom is a multi-stemmed Scots pine that once consisted of eight stilt branches. At the time of the inventory (2009) there were still seven branches present, of which only five were alive. Recent dendrochronological research (2014) was able to determine the age of a strain that has been blown over. On the stem disc that was taken at ground level, a total of 190 annual rings can be read. The last complete annual ring on the stem disc was formed in 2013. The oldest growth ring was formed in 1824. The overturned tribe was 190 years old. According to the historical maps of Ferraris (1771-1778) and Vandermaelen (around 1850), the spacious surroundings of Achtzalighedenboom were a heathland. The Scots pine has therefore sprouted in the 19th-century heathland of the Visbeek valley.
