The mill was built in 1852 to replace a stake mill. In 1873 this mill was equipped with a steam engine and a high fireplace was erected next to the mill. In 1940 the mill was partially dismantled, the hood, the escape, the top axle and the crosswork were removed. The remaining mill hull was recognized as a monument and as a village view in September 1979. In 1993 the city of Lokeren bought the mill and in 2001-2002 the mill was restored. On 8 September 2002, the mill was put back into use during the Heritage Day. The miller's house from the 18th century was too dilapidated to renovate and was demolished in 2004 for safety reasons. The intention is that this will be rebuilt later with the same appearance.
