Daknam

Daknam is an intimate, unspoilt village on the Durme with only 800 inhabitants... On the atmospheric village square is the partly Romanesque Church of Our Lady. It is probably the oldest stone place of worship in the Waasland. The founding date is in the first half of the 12th century. A typical feature from the founding period of the church is the surrounding cemetery with the whitewashed fence wall. At the time, the partially incorporated and covered façade served to broadcast the church messages after Sunday Mass. All this forms the perfect backdrop for the Arts and Crafts Market, which is organized here every year on Whit Monday. On the village square and along the Middendam there are two Reynaert banks.
