This 18th-century chapel is dedicated to Saint Martin, who is also depicted on the upright Balegem stone. Nobody knows exactly why it is called the 'devil's chapel'. According to some, the name refers to a painting in which the Holy Virgin Mary crushes a serpent. Others point to a legend: the chapel is built at a crossroads, allowing you to see two church towers, and the devil is said to appear at midnight. The footpath is officially called Duivelskapelweg.
