The Kwaremont (also called Nieuwe Kwaremont) is a slope in the Flemish Ardennes located in the municipality of Kluisbergen. At the top is the village of Kwaremont.
The Kwaremont is named after the eponymous village of Kwaremont on the slope.
The Kwaremont has been included several times in the Tour of Flanders and inspired awe. Together with the Kruisberg in Ronse and the Edelareberg near Oudenaarde, it formed a formidable trio of slopes in the early years of the Tour.
Until 1965, the Kwaremont consisted entirely of cobblestones with a gravel cycle path next to it. In 1965 the first 400 meters were asphalted from Berchem, followed a year later by the rest of the slope. The slope had now become an easy obstacle for the peloton and the Rounds from 1966 to 1973 had a less exciting race. In 1973 the Oude Kwaremont was discovered, it was immediately included in the Tour in 1974.
