Water brings life!

Observe nature here: alders, reeds and (pollard) willows give this place a picturesque character. A canal brings in water and seepage water bubbles up in the alder grove nearby. Frogs, toads and salamanders prefer such a moist habitat. In the cultivated landscape, amphibians live mainly in cattle drinking pools and ditches. On the gently sloping shore, where the sun's heat penetrates to the bottom, ideal living conditions for larvae and insects are created. Dragonflies, water beetles and snails also appreciate the pool. Herons and storks come here in search of water and food or use the amphibian pool as a washing place. Many residents of small bodies of water live both on land and in the water. That is why the area around the pool is also of great importance. Tall herbaceous plants grow along the banks, which are ideal hiding places for the vulnerable pool dwellers. Fish are less welcome here, because some fish species constantly churn up the bottom and thus make the water cloudy. In addition, they eat the eggs and larvae of amphibians.
This pool is intended to bring about the establishment of floating water plantain. This is a priority species in the European Habitats Directives, which shape European nature policy. Due to the disappearance of open waters fed by seepage, this species is highly endangered.
