The bridge is part of the N16a in the Mechelen district of Battel, hence the name of the bridge. The through traffic between Mechelen and Willebroek usually uses the N16, which passes over the canal via a girder bridge, a little northwest of the Battel bridge.
Like all other bridges and locks on the canal, this bridge is operated from the central traffic post in Kampenhout.
