The Dorent-Nelebroek nature reserve is landscape heritage.
The Dorent-Nelebroek area, with an area of approximately 60 hectares and located on the border between Vilvoorde and Eppegem, together with the valley section between Hombeek and Zennegat, forms one of the last, large and relatively untouched valley areas of the Senne and can be considered the only significant meadow bird area in Brabant and central Belgium. In the other large valley areas of Dender and Dijle, mainly because of the expansion of poplar cultivation, large-scale meadow areas no longer occur. The other meadow areas in the Senne valley disappeared as a result of increasing urbanization and industrialization, road construction, the exploitation of the sand extraction pits in the vicinity of Mechelen and, as is the case with the other river valleys, due to poplar cultivation.
