Seat of the lordship of Kruikenburg, of which Ternat, Sint-Katarina-Lombeek, and Wambeek were part, originated from an allodium of the abbey of Nivelles and initially belonged to the van Wezemaals; in 1380, the estate was purchased by the Brussels family 't Serclaes, after which it was inherited through marriage by the Fourneau's in the 16th century, for whom it was elevated to a countship in 1662, and in 1866 the castle became the property of the de Lichtervelde's through marriage, and since the 20th century it has been used as a college of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
