At the beginning of the 20th century, pine trees and Japanese larches were planted in the flat area of the Muziekbos for mining purposes. From 2014, these conifers will be felled. All birches, oaks, and beeches will remain untouched. The aim is to create a structurally rich mosaic of wooded areas by 2020, with open, light-rich spots where, among other things, heath can thrive.
