The Oak Drive refers to the important tree and fruit of the forest. During the Middle Ages, pigs were fattened with acorns. On the one hand, by chasing them into the forest, known as pannage. On the other hand, by collecting acorns to feed to the pigs (paisson des glands, also called 'glandée'). This was a widespread phenomenon during the Middle Ages in the autumn period. In addition, the oak was used by the tanners. The collection and grinding of oak bark (Escorches) for tanning leather by 'skin freshers' was also a common practice in Halle, for which special mills were established.
