Jansheideberg is both a nature reserve that is part of the Hallerbos and a hill. The Steenputbeek forms the western boundary of the Jansheideberg forest reserve and is also a historical boundary of the forest. The Jansheideberg nature reserve consists of a plateau, a slope, and a valley section. The lowest point in the valley is about 75 m. The valley rises steeply to the plateau, with 115 m as the highest point. On the plateau, the thick Brusselsian sand layers are usually covered with a thin layer of Quaternary loess clay. Between both layers, there is a Quaternary gravel layer (e.g., flint pebbles) in many places. On the slope, the thickness of the clay cover can vary significantly due to accumulation and erosion. In certain places, a superficial mixing with Brusselsian sand (due to solifluction) has resulted in sandy clay soils.
