Anyone who arrives at the Church Square of Ninove will undoubtedly be impressed by the imposing former abbey church with leaning tower, the current Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. This imposing baroque church belonged to the abbey site of the Norbertines behind it. The first stone was laid in 1635, a second building campaign dates from the beginning of the 18th century. The solemn dedication took place in 1727. Since 1813 - the abbey had been dissolved in 1796 and demolished in the 19th century - the church was used as a parish church, dedicated to Our Lady. The tower was only built in 1826-1844, after a design by the well-known architect Louis Roelandt. In the façade of the church are the effigies of Saint Cornelius, Saint Cyprian and Our Lady.
