Antwerp built the church of Christ the King on the occasion of the Universal Exposition of 1930. Jan De Voslei avenue did not even exist. It is on this spot that part of the exhibitions and events were held. The church was surrounded by a rose garden. King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth were the ones who opened the inauguration of the exhibitions.
Then - and until the present - the church became a parish church. It was built in the modern Art Deco style, with contemporary stained glass windows. For the decoration and the domes, the architect Jos Smolderen was inspired by the Basilica of Koekelberg, which was built during the same period. The soaring tower was shortened in 1975 because the spire was unstable.
The committee of the ‘Kristus-Koning’ organ organises concerts that highlight the monumental organ by Klais (1930).
